Can you imagine a train that is of the British age that is still running in Indian village? Yes that is true. The place is bhatni-bharhaj block in Devaria district in Uttar Pradesh. The train runs between salampur and barhaj. It has four bogies. Village people lovingly call this train Barhajia. Interesting to note about this train is that it covers a distance of 30 kilometer in four hours. Whenever any railway crossing comes, the driver get down from the train and close the gate of crossing and when train crosses the crossing, the railway employee in last bogie of train gets down again and closes it.There is no security guard or ticket collector in this train. Passenger has to take ticket like bus station. Employees of contractor who has taken this station contract collect the ticket and take the ticket amount. The railway earns  monthly  nearly  20000 Rs in this route.
This train story goes to back 1897 when British had laid down railway line from salampur to barhaj via bhatni.Train was used to transfer goods and passenger. The foreign goods that come to barhaj is distributed in other parts of country through this train. Similarly Indian goods were sent to foreign countries through this route. The train was going on nicely even after British regime in India. In 1980 the then railway minister Janeshwar Mishra has proclaimed to lay down railway line here. After that two link express began to operate at this route .Suddenly the train operation was stopped was stopped on this route. People start protesting against it. Consequently railway again has to start operation of Bharhaj here. Now the Railway administration has given station on contract. And this chuk-chuk—train is still going on-------------  .
